I typically don’t share articles on my website. The purpose of this site is to showcase my own work, an online portfolio if you will. However, yesterday I stumbled upon one of the best articles I’ve read in a really long while on how to job hunt. More then just job hunting, the piece tells you what to do to land the job you truly desire. I just HAD to share this.
What the author suggests absolutely requires some work and effort but as someone who already does a few of the things he’s suggesting, I can tell you, it works. I will certainly be trying out the tactics I don’t already use in the future.
Here are a few pearls of wisdom on your chances of getting a job if you don’t try more nontraditional methods:
“On average, an open role at a well known company gets ~250 resumes. 75% of these resumes came from some sort of online portal (like the company’s online application, or a career aggregator site like Indeed.com).
Once submitted, these applications are screened by Applicant Tracking software that scans them for keywords. At the end of the process, ~5 resumes make it into the hands of a recruiter. That’s 2% at best.”
